Testimony: The New York City Council Committee on Civil and Human Rights Oversight Hearing – Fair Chance Act Challenges and Successes

Anna Arkin-Gallagher also testified before the City Council Committee on Civil and Human Rights on the Fair Chance Act and Fair Chance for Housing. Brooklyn Defender Services urged the city to strengthen enforcement so New Yorkers are not denied jobs or housing because of arrests or criminal records, and called for full funding and staffing for the Commission on Human Rights. “The Fair Chance Act is a critical bill that helps to ensure that New Yorkers have the opportunity to get and keep jobs without their criminal history standing in the way,” Arkin-Gallagher said.
