Brooklyn Defenders, alongside NYC's other public defense organizations was featured in a recent How To New York guide from The City. The resource, titled "How Public Defenders Work in NYC, and Who’s Eligible for a Free Attorney" provides information about the history, organization, & mission of various public defender entities within the city while also detailing the general process of how these services are accessed and allocated by those requiring representation before criminal, family, & immigration courts in New York who lack the ability to retain private attorneys.

Both Yung Mi-Lee, the Legal Director of the Criminal Defense Practice at Brooklyn Defenders & Nila Natarajan, Associate Director of Policy and Family Defense were quoted in the piece with Natarajan speaking to the readiness of BDS to aid families facing involvement with the family court system at the earliest stages of their encounters: “We will be there,” said Nila Natarajan, associate director of policy and family defense at Brooklyn Defender Services. “We will start talking to someone right away, learning about them, asking them questions, explaining what’s happening, and doing our best to triage, often in emergency and crisis situations.
