NYC Correction Department officials brushed off concerns about recorded jailhouse calls between inmates and legal advisers

“We believe the Department of Correction...has improperly monitored and recorded legal calls between BDS clients and their counsel in violation of...attorney-client privilege, and the United States Constitution,” reads the March 2, 2020 letter addressed to the department’s general counsel, Heidi Grossman, and chief of staff Brenda Cooke. “Please immediately cease this practice, update the Do Not Record list, and delete any existing records, including audio recordings, of calls to or from these numbers.”
