Brooklyn Defenders Statement on Adams Administration’s Proposed Cuts to Jail Programs in the FY2024 Budget

“The programs and services offered by nonprofits in New York City jails are invaluable supports for people who are incarcerated. Mayor Adams’ decision to cut classes, reentry services and other supportive programming offered by these providers is misguided and must be reversed.

...

Eliminating these services would be disastrous for the people we work with and other incarcerated New Yorkers. We urge the Council and the Mayor to restore the program budget, and most importantly, all stakeholders must do everything in their power to get people home and reduce the jail population.”
