Staff Attorney, Criminal Defense Practice
Shirin was born and raised in Queens, New York. She received her B.A in Political Science from SUNY Binghamton in 2009, where she participated in the University Judicial Affairs Board and the Judicial Outreach Team.
Fueled by an eagerness for public service and an interest in the law, Shirin attended Hofstra University School of Law, where she received her J.D. in 2012 with a concentration in Criminal Law. During her time at Hofstra, Shirin was a student advocate in the Criminal Justice Clinic, where she represented clients accused of misdemeanor offenses. This further ignited her passion for indigent defense. Shirin also participated in the Trial Advocacy Association and Mock Trial Team, in addition to internships with Shestack and Young (a civil litigation firm) and Brooklyn Defender Services, as well as holding a position as a Paralegal position with The Nassau County Legal Aid Society.
Prior to joining BDS, Shirin worked as a Staff Attorney for over three years at the Nassau County Legal Aid Society, where she conducted several pre trial hearing and won acquittals in both jury trials and bench trials in a conservative jurisdiction.
