Krystal M. Rodriguez
Staff Attorney, Criminal Defense Practice
Krystal was born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey. She graduated from Rutgers University and CUNY School of Law. Prior to law school, she volunteered at several community organizations in Newark, NJ, where she saw first-hand the impact of the criminal justice system, particularly, on poor communities of color.
While at CUNY Law, she was a member of the Immigrant and Refugee Rights Clinic, where she focused on deportation defense. As a member of the Creating Law Enforcement Accountability and Responsibility (CLEAR) Project, she represented and advised clients in the pre-arrest stages of local and federal law enforcement investigations. She also interned at The Legal Aid Society’s Criminal Defense Practice, where she had her first opportunity to represent clients at arraignments.
As an active member of the CUNY Law community, she participated in the Latin American Law Student Association, and served on the Editorial Board of the CUNY Law Review, as Special Events Editor. She also presented “Know Your Rights” workshops as a member of CLEAR and CUNY chapter of the National Lawyers Guild Chapter. Krystal is excited to have joined Brooklyn Defender Services in September 2012 and looks forward to serving the Brooklyn community.
