Staff Attorney, Criminal Defense Practice
Brian Perbix joined Brooklyn Defender Services as an attorney in the criminal defense practice in 2017. He received his J.D. from New York University School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude and Order of the Coif, and was a Root-Tilden-Kern public interest scholar. Before joining BDS he clerked for the Honorable Wendy Beetlestone of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
While at NYU, Brian spent summers as an intern at The Defender Association where he represented clients charged with misdemeanors in Seattle, and at the Federal Defenders of New York where he helped defend individuals facing criminal charges in federal court here in Brooklyn. He also participated in two year-long public defense clinics, working at BDS through the Criminal Defense and Reentry Clinic, and at the Legal Aid Society’s Juvenile Rights Practice through the Juvenile Defender Clinic where he represented kids charged with juvenile delinquencies in Brooklyn Family Court.
Brian is a 2009 graduate of Grinnell College, where he earned an honors degree in Biology, a concentration in Environmental Studies, and was awarded the President’s Medal. Before law school, he worked for three years as a grassroots environmental organizer for the Prairie Rivers Network organizing campaigns against coal pollution in Illinois.
