Senior Staff Attorney, Family Defense Practice
Kristal Padolina joined the Family Defense Practice at BDS in October 2013. Kristal graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2004 with a B.A. in Political Science. Before law school, she was a member of the Human Protection Working Group for the Lower Mainland chapter of the Canadian Red Cross for over a year, running workshops on children and war and the effects of small arms on developing nations, and organizing a film and speaker series with documentarians and nurses from Médecins Sans Frontières about Ugandan Internally Displaced Persons. Kristal graduated from Hofstra University School of Law in 2009 and while in law school, she worked at the Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence and mediated PINS (persons in need of supervision) cases between youth and their families for Family and Children’s Services and for Long Beach Reach Inc. She is licensed to practice law in New York, New Jersey and the District of Columbia.
Prior to working for BDS, Kristal worked for the New York City Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) representing the city as an Agency Attorney in child neglect and abuse proceedings. Her experience at ACS gave her invaluable insight into New York’s child welfare system and she is excited to be able to directly advocate for parents who are understandably confused and overwhelmed by ACS and Family Court’s intervention in their lives.
Kristal is originally from Vancouver, Canada, and speaks French and Tagalog (Filipino). She has called New York home since 2006 and is honored to be a part of the Family Defense Practice at BDS.
