Staff Attorney, Family Defense Practice
Mairead Kennelly joined Brooklyn Defender Services Family Defense Practice as a staff attorney in 2017. Prior to joining BDS, Mairead clerked for the Honorable J. Michael Ryan at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
Mairead received her J.D. from Fordham University School of Law, where she served on the Stein Scholars for Public Interest council. While at Fordham, Mairead was co-director of the Fordham Law Defenders, board member for OUTlaws, competitor for the Brendan Moore Trial Advocacy Center, and student in the Criminal Defense Clinic. Mairead spent her summers at the Bronx Defenders in their criminal and family defense practices and at BDS’s family defense practice. Mairead was also previously a non-profit bail bond agent for the Bronx Freedom Fund, where she helping indigent New Yorkers avoid the devastating consequences of pretrial detention.
Before law school, Mairead was a Fellow at the Orleans Public Defenders, where she worked as a client advocate. She graduated from Boston College with a B.A. in English
