Staff Attorney, Family Defense Practice
Mary Gibbons joined BDS in 2017 as a staff attorney in the family defense practice. Prior to that, she was a staff attorney at the New Hampshire Public Defenders’ office, where she represented juveniles and adults in criminal court.
Mary is a graduate of Fordham University School of Law, where she was a Stein Scholar for the Public Interest. While in law school, she was also a member of the Urban Law Journal, an Editor of the Brendan Moore Trial Advocacy Team, a Board Member of Prisoners’ Rights Advocates, and a participant in the Criminal Defense Clinic. During her summers, she interned with the Public Defender Service of D.C. and Brooklyn Family Defense Practice. Mary graduated Order of the Coif and was awarded the Robert Aram Runzulli Prize in Criminal Law upon graduation.
Prior to law school, Mary worked as a staff investigator with the Orleans Public Defenders in New Orleans. She earned her B.A. in American Studies from Fordham University at Rose Hill in the Bronx. It was at Fordham that Mary began her career in public interest, inspired by the Jesuit philosophy of “men and women for others”. Mary is excited and proud to be representing Brooklyn parents and guardians in family court.
