Staff Attorney, Immigration- Padilla Practice
Nathaniel (“Nat”) Damren joined Brooklyn Defender Services in April 2017 as a staff attorney with the Padilla unit, which advises defense attorneys about the immigration consequences of criminal charges.
Prior to joining BDS, Nat spent four years working as an associate attorney at Andrade Legal in Boise, Idaho, representing noncitizens in removal proceedings before the immigration courts as well as in appeals before the Board of Immigration Appeals and petitions for review before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. In recognition of his efforts to educate and advise the Gem State’s defense bar about the immigration consequences of criminal convictions, the Idaho Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers awarded Nat the 2017 Nevin Professionalism Award.
Born and raised just outside Detroit, Nat received his B.A. in History from the University of Michigan, and his J.D. from the DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, where he focused on the intersection of immigration and criminal law.
