Adolescent Social Worker
Hyisheem Shabazz Calier is an Adolescent Social Worker at Brooklyn Defender Services.
Mr. Calier was born in Harlem, NY and is a graduate of Rice High School. Calier first found his love for Social Work early on, being very involved with his community center the Hudson Guild. He began his working career at the Guild, as a youth worker for their NORC (Naturally Occurring Retirement Community) division. Calier then went on to obtaining his undergraduate degree at Virginia State University. His calling came when he realized that he could combine theoretical framework with his experiences to help advocate for others. While at VSU he interned for the Petersburg Department of Social Services where he worked for their Foster Care/ Prevention Unit advocating for adolescents and Families.
Mr. Calier Attended Radford University-School of Social Work. While Studying, Calier also worked as a substance abuse counselor and created programs for minority groups on his campus, through the University’s Center for Diversity and Inclusion. Calier also conducted research pertaining to “The Success and Risk Factors for African American Males who attend Predominantly White Institutions” He graduated in 2016 with an M.S.W.
Hyisheem joined the BDS Family in 2017.
