After previously serving as a summer 2014 intern and fall 2015 post-graduate fellow at the Brooklyn Family Defense Practice, Heather joined BDSas a Staff Attorney in May 2017. She is very excited to be a part of this holistic team that is fighting for justice on behalf of low-income parents and families!
Prior to joining BDS, Heather was a staff attorney at CAMBA Legal Services, where she helped to prevent or delay the eviction of low-income tenants and to enforce tenants’ rights in Kings County Housing Court. Heather received her Juris Doctor degree and a certificate in criminal law from Brooklyn Law School in 2015. During her time at Brooklyn Law School, Heather completed internships at Youth Represent, the Legal Aid Society’s Criminal Defense Practice, and the Safe Harbor Project, through which she helped a tortured man to secure asylum in the United States. She was a member of the Journal of Law and Policy and the Moot Court Honor Society, participating first as a competitor and then as a coach for the Philip C. Jessup International Law Competition team. Before attending law school, Heather earned a B.A. in International Law and a B.A. in Spanish from SUNY Geneseo.
Heather speaks Spanish and continues to study other languages, including French. She is a member of the Mental Health Law Committee and the LGBT Rights Committee of the New York City Bar Association.
