Melissa is grateful to be a part of the Education Advocacy Project, where she addresses the educational needs of young people in Brooklyn who are involved in the criminal justice or family welfare systems.

A graduate of Boston College, Melissa was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and taught English in Germany for a year.  As a member of the Fulbright Program’s Diversity Initiative, she worked in a middle school where many students spoke German as a second language.  Upon returning to New York, Melissa worked as a litigation paralegal at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP for over two years.

Melissa graduated from New York Law School, where she focused on public interest law and was an associate in the Justice Action Center.  She received the Social Justice Activism Award for her commitment to public interest law and for outstanding contributions to social justice.  During law school, Melissa interned at Lawyers Alliance for New York and the Legal Action Center, and also worked as a research and teaching assistant.  As a 3L, she participated in the Suspension Representation Clinic, where her interest in education law was sparked.  As a result of the high quality of her work in the clinic, Melissa was awarded the Professor Stephen J. Ellmann Clinical Legal Education Commencement Prize.
